Bamboo products can be used indoors and outdoors. When used outdoors it is very important to do regular maintenance just like with any outdoor wood. Wash the bamboo furniture with a detergent mixed with an anti-mildew additive every month. Location of the bamboo piece is very critical due to the fact that mildew will occur easily when bamboo is under wet conditions for an extended period of time. Cover or move the bamboo furniture indoors during the off-season to prolong the life of your bamboo furniture.

Our bamboo products are made of natural bamboo with coats of outdoor varnish. In strong sunlight, the varnish will breakdown and the bamboo will begin to weather. Many customers prefer the natural aged look of bamboo which weathers much like cedar, first getting darker and ending up a silver gray color.

We recommend coating the bamboo with UV protected outdoor varnish once per year. Avoid direct contact with the earth to prevent rot.

Please observe and following these steps to maintain your bamboo products and to prevent expansion/contraction and bowing/sagging of the side panels, counters, poles, joints, legs and roof.

  1. Bamboo is going to split, this the nature of bamboo. It is ok for bamboo to split and still maintain the structural integrity of the bamboo products. However it is important to prevent it from further splitting by tightly wrapping the split section using galvanized or copper wire.

  2. You need to properly clean the bamboo structure monthly with a light detergent solution containing an anti-mildew additive. Coat with linseed oil mixed with 50% thinner bi-monthly.

  3. The proper setting of bamboo products is VERY important. Try to avoid extreme weather situations or extreme temperature variation conditions as much as possible. Keeping your bamboo out of direct sunlight and extreme rain will help prevent the noted problems above.

  4. As stated, we recommend coating the bamboo with an UV protected outdoor varnish once per year. Cover the bamboo furniture during off season if it is not moved indoors.
